Giant panda Kai Kai goes straight for his favourite apple slices decorating his bearth-day bamboo tower at River Safari’s Giant Panda Forest. The male panda turns 11 this year.

Always the cautious one, Giant Panda Jia Jia gingerly takes a curious whiff of her birthday cake at River Safari’s Giant Panda Forest. She just turned ten.

A statuesque 1.2-metre-tall bamboo tower adorned with apples and carrots awaited River Safari’s famous bear couple—Kai Kai and Jia Jia—as they made their way into the Giant Panda Forest this morning.
Male Kai Kai turns eleven today, while female Jia Jia turned a perfect 10 on 3 September. To mark the occasion, their human carers prepared birthday cakes as a special treat to the duo.
Kai Kai and Jia Jia eagerly chomped down on approximately 17kg of bamboo, carefully measured and delicately cut to make up their bear-thday tower, with a giant cake topper.
“Kai Kai and Jia Jia love getting treats, and we love spoiling them!” said Halim Ali, Assistant Curator, River Safari. “I’ve cared for the duo since they arrived in Singapore six years ago. They are like family to the team of keepers.”
