Journey through the newly installed Valley of Giants and meet the supersized cousins of modern animals like a giant wombat as tall as a human, a giant sloth as large as a bear, or Megalania the largest terrestrial lizard known to have existed. An immersive discovery trail will spotlight the parallels between Singapore Zoo’s living megafauna and their extinct relatives.

Ms May Lok, Director of Education, Wildlife Reserves Singapore, said “Scientists debate that the mass extinction of prehistoric megafauna may have been a result of either conflict with early humans or climate change. Today, human-induced climate change and activities like poaching remain great threats to modern-day megafauna. Through A Mammoth Adventure, we hope to draw lessons from the past to educate the present, inculcating in children a desire to protect living megafauna threatened by extinction such as the white rhinoceros and Asian elephant.”

Learn all about the mammoth task that Singapore Zoo’s elephant keepers take on to care for a herd of Asian elephants—modern-day megafauna and the closest living relative of the woolly mammoth. In a first for the park, and for a limited time only, guests can enjoy an exclusive behind-the-scenes experience with the keepers who will showcase their animal care methods. It will be a rare treat to observe how the keepers train the largest living land animals in Asia to participate in medical checks and offer their feet for a pedicure.

At the Jumbo Games stations, guests can learn about the ecological roles of modern giants. They can also befriend Little Momo, a fully mobile and roving mammoth calf which will be accompanied by a pair of cavemen who will make special appearances during activity days. At the Colour-like-a-Caveman station, both young and old can mix modern technology with prehistoric fun and digitally paint ancient animals together.

Little Momo and her cavemanfriends will meet guests on weekends between16 November to 29 December 2019.
