[P1 - P2] Diversity in the Rainforest

Join us for an engaging indoor presentation on the incredible diversity of rainforest animals! Students will learn about the different rainforest layers and the creatures that inhabit them, and get a closer look at fascinating animal specimens - including a python, tiger, and hornbill.
Please note that this programme is an indoor lecture and presentation, not a guided tour.
Programme objectives:
- Appreciate the diversity of rainforest animals
- Hone observation skills and describe where to find animals in different rainforest layers
- Discover interesting traits of featured rainforest animals
Programme outcomes:
- Recall at least 5 rainforest animals and 1 special trait about them
- Name the 4 rainforest layers and make use of at least 3 positional words to describe where to discover animals in the rainforest

Different animals have different body coverings. Get to explore the different needs for survival and how body coverings of animals meet these needs and help them thrive in their environment. In this programme, students get to encounter the body coverings of a tiger, python, pangolin, and more.

Programme objectives:
- Learn about different types of body coverings on animals
- Understand how body covering helps an animal to survive better in its environment
Programme outcomes:
- List the body covering of 5 different animal groups

Animals in the wild live in places that they are adapted to. Observe and discover different animals and their adaptations for survival in this interactive programme.

- Understand animal adaptations and differentiate between behavioural and structural adaptation
- Infer how adaptations of an animal help it to survive in their environment
Programme outcomes:
- Explain the difference between behavioural and structural adaptation

Fragile Forest offers a multi-dimensional experience of life in a rainforest. Walk amidst fascinating flora and come face to face with ring-tailed lemurs, flying foxes, various butterflies and birds, and more.
Also, get acquainted with diverse and fascinating invertebrates at the Discovery Outpost. Through this tour, discover the importance of rainforests to animals and us, and how we can play a role in protecting them.

Invertebrates make up 97% of all animal life and are incredibly diverse. Marvel at some of our invertebrates to observe their unique traits up close and discover how we care for so many species of them in the Zoo!
Programme objectives:
- Appreciate the diversity and importance of invertebrates
- Get up close and observe different invertebrates, including butterflies and stick insect at various life cycle stages
- Discover how Fragile Forest keepers care for over 90 invertebrate species
Programme outcomes:
- Classify invertebrates by their physical traits or life cycle stages
- List 2 ways why invertebrates are important in our ecosystem
- Share at least 2 ways how Mandai cares for so many invertebrate species

Ever wonder how different invertebrates have unique and interesting ways to defend themselves from predators? Get to also discover why invertebrates are so important to our ecosystem and witness how some of them help to reduce food waste in Mandai.
Programme objectives:
- Get up close to different invertebrates like scorpions and stick insects with unique physical traits or behaviours
- Hone critical thinking skills on the ways invertebrates defend themselves and the important ecological roles they have
- Discover how invertebrates play a role to reduce food waste in Mandai
Programme outcomes:
- Recall 3 invertebrates and describe their defence methods
- Name 2 ecological roles of invertebrates
- List 2 invertebrates in Fragile Forest that helps in reducing food waste

- For the safety of all personnel, outdoor programmes may be altered at our discretion due to unsuitable weather conditions.
- For every 10 paying students, 1 adult gains free programme admission. Any additional adult(s) are subject to the regular programme rate. This ratio does not apply to enrichment centres.
- If your group size falls below the minimum required number of participants, you will be required to cover the difference by paying for the additional students needed to meet the minimum requirement.
