Lester

Lester was born on 10 May 2024 in Norway before arriving in Singapore on 15 October 2025 — a considerable journey for the world’s largest rodent. Upon arrival, he behaved much as capybaras often do in unfamiliar surroundings: cautiously observant, keeping a respectful distance while assessing the situation.

After several feeding sessions, however, he became noticeably more comfortable with his keepers and now approaches readily for food, interaction, and the occasional scratch behind the ears.

Among his brothers, Lester is generally regarded as the calmest and most approachable. As the youngest of the group, he is often observed following behind his older brother Dexter rather than taking the lead himself.

Guests are naturally drawn to his relaxed temperament, particularly during quieter interactions with the care team. Fortunately for everyone involved, Lester appears entirely agreeable to attention — provided it includes scratches.

Lester began husbandry training from a young age, including regular weigh-ins and conditioning sessions that support routine veterinary care with minimal stress. His care team also provides regular enrichment and carefully managed feeding routines to encourage natural behaviours.

This leaves Lester free to focus on his primary responsibilities: foraging, exploring, resting, socialising, and positioning himself strategically for scratches whenever possible.
